where once the prayers of many rose
now silence, sacred silence
where once the holy beads of water purified
now dry and dusty, unforgiving
the smoke plumes all around
the shriek of jets, the thud of bombs
no longer piercing the air
but still piercing the memories
the city surrounding still ablaze
but the cathedral
the steeple, still standing upright
for all teary eyes to pay homage to
still rising above the ashes
and soon the citizens
steadfast and hopeful, prayerful still
the flock, they will return
st. paul will guide them
as he always has

Thought all was well, that her love wouldn’t end.
She wasn’t so sure; she wished for a hint:
Love everlasting, or just a brief stint?
How could she know–she was still just a kid–
That the can of worms had just lost its lid?

Throughout her divorce, she’d bitch and she’d whine
That she hadn’t noticed such a clear sign.

this wasn’t heaven, but it did last 7 minutes.

Jane pulled her very best friend Mary aside,
and in a very serious tone, broached
the very necessary question:

“Do you think we’ll go to hell for this?”
Mary said, “Naw, don’t worry,
Married people do it all the time.”
